Bringing home baby

This Friday marked two weeks since we brought our little boohaw home from the hospital!! I never thought our lives could be so different, in such a good way!! This little 18.5in long thing sure has shaken up our lives and I can honestly say we wouldn't want it any other way!! Thanks to a lot of help from our ward and family we have been able to relax and enjoy our new little one to the fullest extent which has made our adaption to a family of three relatively easy and very enjoyable.  At the hospital last Friday Maysa and I both had a lot of tests and examinations to get checked out, but we where both healthy and happy so they told us to pack up and head on our way.  So we got her all dressed in her smallest outfit, I did not plan on how tiny she was going to be, everything I packed practically drowned her, so note to future self... pack preemie clothes!

We got her all bundled up in her new car seat then headed on our way home... well I thought we where going home but Troy had other plans!! Troy's brothers have a tradition to take all of their new babies kayaking BEFORE they take them home from the hospital.  Well, we had kind of talked about it, I mostly thought we where joking, I figured that I wouldn't feel good right out of the hospital and the baby would be so little, and I assumed Troy would understand and we could take the baby kayaking or on some other crazy adventure like the next day or even next week when she was a little older! But Troy well... Troy likes to get things done, he is the opposite of a procrastinator; if he plans to do it sometime then he might as well do it now! So we did it now!! First we went off-roading up Hyde Park which was a semi miserable experience, I say semi because it was good to be out of the hospital, and it was our first drive as a family, so that was cute and all... but every little bump hurt my incision and I was still weary and dizzy and confused on pain meds.  At one point I just burst into tears and begged to go home, but in true Troy fashion he just laughed at me!! Ok, so you are probably thinking I have the worst caregiver in the world at this point and the hospital should have never released me to go home with him! But Troy knows me, he knows that I will pretty much try to use every excuse in the book not to do something, usually because I'm scared, but the second after it is done I am immediately thankful he made me do it! So when I started bawling, he was laughing because literally seconds before the tears I was telling him a story and singing country songs... we later realized this was most likely just our first experience with postpartum hormones... something we became all to familiar with in the next weeks so it was probably a good thing he laughed because that made me laugh and everything ended up fine! Oh and the whole time Maysa is just happy as a button in the back in her car seat, because she really likes cars and especially bouncing around while jeeping! So we get to the top of the mountain where there is snow and Troy pulls out his snowboard to take Maysa on her first Hazard adventure.  Everyone who saw the picture thought we where the worst parents ever for taking her snowboarding straight from the hospital, but I assure you it wasn't as bad as it seemed! I bundled her up in like 8 layers of blankets and hats and then Troy went down a small little hill with her, she was safe and sleeping the entire time! But at least she can say she went snowboarding her first day out of the hospital... it will make a good story if she goes professional in snowboarding like Troy hopes! ;)

Maysa's first time snowboarding
Once we gave Maysa her first bath, which was bad to say the least! We thought she was going to love her little bath chair and everything but she was freezing and was screaming bloody murder the whole time!! We have officially now mastered the bath, she can be in and out in like 5 minuets flat and she loves it when Troy washes her hair, she fusses a little when I do it... idk what he does differently but it is so cute when he does it because she just sighs and rolls her eyes back into her head like she is the most pampered little princess in the world!! My mom came up that night which was a saving grace!! It was so good to have her here, she would wake up with Maysa and I at night and help me get the hang of nursing and burping and just all that mom stuff that takes a while to get good at! She would also tell me I was doing good, and keep me emotionally sane! I'm so grateful she was able to stay for four days and all of her motherly love, help, and advise!!

First bath... not a very happy experience for anyone
Maysa has had tons of visitors, my brothers and dad came up and stayed the weekend, that was a little crazy, all of us packed into our small apartment! It was especially stressful watching the boys fight over Maysa like she was a rag doll! They all love holding her ALOT and me being a crazy first time mom things got a little stressful, but after they left I realized I was grateful they loved her and wanted to hold her instead of wanting to "throw her in the garbage" like Ky said he would do when he found out she was a girl!!

After a lot of visitors things started to quiet down at our house, it was really nice to have just us three here in our tiny little house being a family! Troy was a great little caregiver, he took care of both of us and did all the laundry and dishes so I felt pretty blessed! Towards the middle of the week, as the weather started warming up, Troy got his motorcycle out and un-winterized it and got it all ready to sell, he listed it and about an hour later a guy was calling him to come and look at it! We where both a little sad because neither of us had even had a chance to ride it since fall and it was going to be gone forever! So I called up our friend downstairs and asked if she could watch Maysa sleep for a couple of minuets while we went for a quick ride up the canyon with one of Troy's motorcycle buddies.  It was my first time really out of the house since the baby so it was great!! Troy has always said he was going to hit 100mph with me on it and I guess since he thought he was going to sale it that night this was his last chance so when we got to a straight away he gunned it and I started hitting him to try and slow him down, I was soooo mad he was trying to kill us both while we left our baby home!! But we where OK, and like usual I ended up laughing about it. So we hurried home because I was so sad to be away from Maysa for the first time, even though it was only like 10 minuets! And Troy went to show the bike to the guy, who ended up not even buying it so he risked my life for nothing I guess!!
Our "last" motorcycle ride, time to be responsible parents now
We wanted a picture with Maysa and the bike, don't worry he didn't drive anywhere with her... we aren't that crazy!
This week was Troy's spring break, I felt kind of bad that he goes to school all the time and then on his break he just has to stay home and take care of us, so we decided to figure out a way to squeeze in a little vacation for him! So on Sunday night we drove down to Heber where Maysa and I stayed and Troy and his friends headed to Moab to go rock climbing.  I was fine with it because I got to play with my mom and family, and Troy got to climb some really huge scary cork screw thing that is super dangerous but he has always wanted to do it so it worked out great for everyone! He was only there for a day, which was good because his girls missed him a lot, Maysa cried the whole night he was gone! :(
Photo: Once again, a picture not giving the experience justice! Planking on the top of corkscrew after walking across the catwalk on Ancient Art in Moab. 500 feet up on every side. Such a sweet climb! #moab #ancientart #corkscrew #catwalk #rockclimbing #goodtime
Troy ontop of the corkscrew in Moab... he claimed he was safe the whole time, idk about that tho!

Troy repelling down Morning Glory arch in Moab... I think this is the most amazing picture, and I'm happy they where able to get in a couple of good climbs!
Once we made it home from that trip Troy drove to the airport to pick up his mom, she's been staying here this week which has been so great! She does everything from cleaning, to laundry, to dishes so I just get more time to relax and get better.  I am feeling a lot better, we try to make it out of the house at least once a day, the other day we all went to first damn and fed the ducks.  We really wanted to try out Maysa's new baby bonjur carrier and my friend from high school Tori, and her husband where up in Logan so that was a good excuse to get out and play! So we strapped Maysa all up onto Troy's chest and she actually really liked it!! While the rest of us where just talking and relaxing suddenly someone is like where is Troy and we look up and find him on the top of the mountain on a big look out taking Maysa on her first hike!! Luckily he didn't fall or anything and she was happy to be outside and walking around so it was all good!

He's a full on dad now, with a baby strapped to his chest and everything
So everything is pretty great here in the Hazard House, we're just so blessed and happy to have our sweet little family all together.  We spend 99% of our time just looking at and loving our sweet little girl! We are so thankful to everyone who has showed us all so much love and support and offered so much help to smooth this transition a long! And I am proud to announce Maysa slept a full 7 hours the other night!!! So as for now we are feeling really good about things, but we'll see how long that lasts ;) Here are some other fun pictures of the last couple of weeks!
Nap time always goes better on daddy's chest <3

Troy thinks her binkee is the funniest thing because sometimes she sucks really fast and hard, also it is like as big as her whole face!
One day she would not relax she was laying straight as a board while Troy held her out!

We took her to see campus and showed her the A where mommy and daddy became True Aggies ;)

I thought this picture was hilarious, this was on the way home from the hospital in true daddy fashion Troy had to pack everything into the apartment like a pack mule! Amazing how much stuff this tiny little girl needs!

  1. Sounds like you guys are adjusting pretty well! Fife hated his first bath too (although he didn't get his til like a week after he got home), he cried and screamed, but now he just LOVES them! I bet Maysa will soon enjoy the warm water. I can't believe you are out and doing so many things! You must be super woman or something! I'm glad to see things are going well, can't wait to meet the little cutie.
